Port Elgin native Tyler Middleton is one of 20 referees that have been selected to participate in the 2017 OHL Gold Cup in Kitchener. The event got underway May 3 through to May 7 at the Activa Sportsplex.
The 22 year old Middleton was a minor hockey official this year, as well as a linesman for the OHA in Junior C arenas around the area, and a linesman for WOAA Senior hockey.
The OHL Gold Cup also features a development camp through which officials experience both on- and off-ice instruction and an opportunity to referee and line four OHL Gold Cup tournament games.
The OHL Gold Cup is an annual showcase event featuring the top Under 16 hockey players in the province. As part of the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence, select players from the OHL Gold Cup will be invited to attend the National Under 17 Selection Camp where they will have a chance to compete with other top talent from across Canada and earn a spot at the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge.
