The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks were unable to capitalize on their Game 1 victory over the Clinton Radars who returned the volley on home ice, taking Game 2 February 25 by a score of 4-1.
The Winterhawks found themselves in trouble early as Clinton was a goalpost away from opening the scoring just two-and-a-half minutes into the game.
The Radars would find the back of the net a minute later to open the scoring when Luke Vick beat Blake Sinclair to make it 1-0 Clinton.
The Winterhawks couldn’t get much going on a couple of power play chances later in the 1st period, finding themselves down 1-0 after one period of play.
Clinton jumped out again early in the 2nd as Stefan Salituro banged the puck in following a goalmouth scramble.
Deryk Whitehead would make it 3-0 for Clinton less than a minute later when he stole the puck and got in alone on Sinclair, spelling the end of his night, as Jeff Flagler would take over in goal.
Penalties would dominate the rest of the night, as Trevor Smith and Mike Smailes were whistled for slashing and tripping respectively 38-seconds apart, putting Clinton on a five-on-three advantage.
Mike Jarmuth would make it 4-0 during that power play, with Kurtis Bartliff assisting.
The Winterhawks would get one back shorthanded 17 seconds later as Theo Peckham found Bryan Kazarian to cut the Radars lead to 4-1.
Both teams had plenty of open ice to work with in the 3rd period, as the referees would whistle the two teams for a combined 12 minor penalties in the final frame, but neither team could find the back of the net, arriving at a 4-1 final for Clinton.
The Radars outshot the Winterhawks 36-22 on the night.
The W.O.A.A. Sr. “AA” semi-final series is tied at one game apiece, with Game 3 scheduled for this Friday, March 3 at 8:30 p.m. in Port Elgin.
