All eight Pickleball courts at Lakeshore Recreation were filled with new players learning the sport from members of the Port Elgin Pickleball Club, September 11. Twenty-six people of all ages jumped at the chance to learn from the best, and did so for free, with racquets and polymer wiffleballs provided.

Lakeshore Recreation will host two more free beginner Pickleball clinics for anyone 12 years or older who wants to try the sport. They will be held on Sunday, September 18 and 25 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

A special Beginner Pumpkinfest Pickleball Tournament will then take place on Sunday, October 2, during the Saugeen Shores’ eventful Pumpkinfest weekend.

Pickleball is growing in popularity in Saugeen Shores and currently holds the only outdoor courts in Bruce County.

lesson 560Saugeen Shores Pickleball Club member John Van Bastelaar and Lakeshore Director of Fitness Karen Fehr, welcomed everyone to the free event. Over 26 potential Pickleball players showed up, spending the first part of the two-hour session going over rules, then getting some time on the courts.
