The Royals Basketball League is running again this year on Mondays and Thursdays beginning on March 31 until June 2 at Saugeen District Secondary School (SDSS). There are three divisions, Grades 4-6 (5:30 p.m.) and Grades 7-8 (6:30 p.m.) for elementary aged children; and Grades 9-12 high school division (7:30 p.m.).
The league is co-ed with instruction at the start of each session followed by a 45 minute game. A maximum of 40 registrants will be accepted for each division.
“This is the third year that Kevin Darlington, Mark McNeill and I have been running the league,” said Tim Smith, Saugeen District Secondary School (SDSS). “We have created a plan that develops basketball skills, but also encourages sportsmanship and leadership.” Smith added that the high school students act as coaches, score keepers and referees for the elementary school divisions, while he, Darlington and Smith look after the high school division.
“All funds are directed to athletic teams at SDSS (basketball, volleyball, and rugby),” said Smith.
