Saugeen Shores first responders took to the ice for a fun game of hockey at the Southampton Coliseum March 6.

The game was originally billed as a match-up between Saugeen Shores Firefighters and Kincardine and Tiverton area. However, after a last minute cancelation from Kincardine, the Saugeen Shores Fire Department recruited a few police officers along with some youngsters to fill both teams, with the firefighters winning 8-6 against the “Police”.

Volunteer firefighter and Saugeen Shores Winterhawk forward, Josh Jackson was involved in the scoring action against the “Police”, but teammate, youngster Joey Ackert, showed great technique and skated around many players from the “Police” team.

Fire Prevention Officer Rob Atkinson, who scored a “beauty”, and firefighter Stanley Kollontay were traded from the Fire Department to the Police team before the game. Kollontay, who is participating in the Saugeen Shores Battle of the Blades, scored two goals and used the break in-between periods to show-off to observing blade rivals, firefighter, Councillor John Rich and Jackson.

Approximately thirty people came to watch the spectacle at the Coliseum.BladesJoeydefenceJackson
