The Saugeen Shores Fire Department beat the Saugeen Shores Police 3-0 in the “Guns and Hoses” hockey game at the Plex on Saturday, November 14. The event and fundraiser was hosted by Victim Services Bruce Grey Perth and raised money for victim assistance.

Although the event was sparsely attended, those who came were treated to a fun game, a few contests, a silent auction and the entertaining “Chuck a Puck” challenge.

Saugeen Shores Fire Deptartment Team Captain, Stanley Kollontay said the police were awesome competitors.

“We really enjoyed playing for the Fire Department against the Police. It was a good, clean, tight game. We came out on top through shear determination,” Kollontay said after the win.

He continued, “It was a great fundraiser, it brought the two departments closer together and we are looking forward to playing in return matches and next year’s fundraiser.”

The Fire Department goalie, Ron Simmons, was borrowed from the Tiverton Fire Department and saved all shots against him, while Fireman Josh Fritzley scored a “one-timer” against the police in the first period. The second period showed no change in score but Madison Ritchie won the Jelly-Bean contest and Victim Services volunteer John Taylor won the “Chuck-a-Puck” contest with the last throw, which knocked-out fellow Victim Services volunteer Courtney Young’s puck from the center circle.

The third period saw Josh Jackson score with a feed from Adam Shular and Shelby Simmons scored in the last ten seconds of the game finalizing the score of 3-0 for the Firemen.

Admission for the event was by donation and the Saugeen Shores Police Service raised $345, $5 more than the Fire Department.

The event raised a total of $1,817.
