Editor,

Over 50 years ago, the residents of what is now Saugeen Shores supported nuclear energy with the construction and operation of Canada's first commercial nuclear generating station - Douglas Point. Since then we saw expansion at the site to include the construction of Bruce A NGS; Bruce Heavy Water Plant; Bruce B NGS and Nuclear Waste Services. The present operation is the largest nuclear facility in the world, and although the site has progressed through different management scenarios over the years, there has always been continued community support. In turn, the community has benefited not only in jobs and wages but in assistance for municipal projects and activities.

It is now time for Saugeen Shores residents to stand up again and show support for locating the Nuclear Innovation Institute in our community. This Institute will be a world class organization that will focus on creating beneficial ideas related to nuclear energy as well as providing educational opportunities to our youth.

The rewards to Saugeen Shores to have this Institute within our municipality are enormous. Let us not lose this opportunity.

Bill McKee,
Saugeen Shores
