remembrance day

Communities in and around Saugeen Shores came together on an unseasonably warm day for Remembrance Day ceremonies on Friday, November 11, 2022.

Veterans, legion members, dignitaries, and community members marched and gathered around cenotaphs in Southampton, Port Elgin, and Saugeen First Nation, as well as the neighbouring towns of Paisley and Tara, to honour veterans and celebrate when guns fell silent at 11am on the same day more than 100 years ago, in 1918, after more than four years of warfare.

Wreaths were laid, prayers were spoken and The Last Post was played to honour those who served.
