The Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce (SSCC) announced earlier this month that, after a thorough review, they will not operate the S.S. Trolley for the 2022 season.

Chamber President Michelle Kay-Scott said while the decision is disappointing for the Chamber and members of the community, they will continue to explore options that could see the attraction return to service.

"There have been a lot of changes in policies, operational costs and partnership resources following the pandemic," said Kay-Scott. "These are logistics that need to be addressed before the S.S. Trolley can return. We have a great committee that will continue working on possible solutions."

The S.S. Trolley began taking passengers on daily tours to significant locations in Port Elgin and Southampton in 2016, extended its long weekend hours in 2018, but made the decision to suspend its service in 2020 and again in 2021, due to the pandemic.

Taralyn Golbeck, Director of Business Development & Communications with the Saugeen Shores Chamber, said that many businesses and organizations are still figuring out how to return to normal after pandemic related disruptions. "This decision will allow the SSCC to take their time figuring out the best course of action for the S.S. Trolley, the Chamber and our community," Golbeck said.
