RHSR Re imagined

Registration is now open for the 2022 Rotary Huron Shore Run. The event event is set for June 4 and is in support of the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation's (SMHF) Bring Tom to Town campaign which aims to bring a CT scanner to the Southampton hospital.

In order to minimize personal contact, there will be no paper registrations on Race Day and registrations will be limited to online only. Conditions may change as required by the provincial government or the Grey Bruce Health Unit. Any restrictions required due to COVID-19 will be specified at the time of the race.

Ahead of June 4, Rotary is hosting a Spring Training virtual event. Participants are challenged to run, roll, ride or walk the equivalent distance, or a portion thereof, along the Lake Huron shoreline from Sarnia to Tobermory, a total of 325 kilometres.

"Complete the distance in your own neighbourhood on a daily or weekly basis until June 4, 2022," read the Rotary Run website. Distances can be recorded online. "Bring your family and friends onboard to make up a Team so you can combine all your individual distances or ask them to sponsor you and see your fundraising total grow on line."

Participants who raise $200 or more in sponsorship during Spring Training will receive a promo code permitting them to enter the June 4 event free of charge. This code is transferable to a family member or friend.

"When you register, please tell us what motivates you to participate in the Huron Shore Run. We would love to hear your story as to why you support our Hospital Foundation and Rotary," reads rotaryrun.net.

For runners looking for a competitive edge, the June 4 event is a Class A race accredited by Athletics Ontario. The course spans part of the scenic Lake Huron shoreline with very little elevation change. In addition to the half marathon, there are 5 and 10 kilometre races for various age groups, a 3 kilometre race for 14 and under and a PLAY Fun Run for those aged 8 and under.

For walkers, it is not intended to be a competitive race but rather a challenge for everyone to do their best and enjoy their experience. Prizes will be awarded for participation rather than fastest times.

PLAY Bruce Grey has organized an 800 metre Fun Run for children 8 and under. All kids are welcome to participate.
