Students at École Port Elgin Saugeen Central School (ÉPESCS) are adding dimensions to their learning. In a recent submission to Saugeen Shores Hub, two 3D printers have been recently donated to the school for staff to integrate into curriculum topics and enhance student learning.

"Students at ÉPESCS are eager to begin printing and already have several project ideas," read the submission.

The school expressed a sincere thank you to Ronnie Miller of Port Elgin for making it possible, calling it an "amazing opportunity."

When the lockdown first began, Miller purchased six printers to begin production on "ear savers", working for approximately seven months producing over 20,000 ear savers for not only local hospitals, teachers, students, and other front-line workers but also sending batches across Ontario and even to British Columbia, Alberta and as far away as Florida.

Miller's ambitions came from a place of caring and wanting to help others during a difficult time and for his efforts, he was the recipient of a Community Volunteer Award from the Power Workers' Union. He is a Nuclear Operator at Bruce A and a member of the Port Elgin Flying Club.

"He certainly knows how to take learning to great new heights," read the submission. "His dedication to our community is greatly appreciated. Way to go, Ronnie! Thank you for your hard work and dedication to helping others during this pandemic."

Once Miller had completed his personal mission of donating ear savers and door hooks, he decided to donate the printers to Saugeen District Senior School, École Port Elgin Saugeen Central School, and Launch Pad YATC in Hanover.

"The donation of the 3D printers is certainly valued and contributes to preparing our students for the ever-changing world of tomorrow," concluded the release.
