Kara Van Myall comes to Saugeen Shores from the County of Bruce and is set to start new new role December 7.

Saugeen Shores Council has passed a bylaw to appoint Kara Van Myall as Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Saugeen Shores.

In an October 27 media release, Van Myall joins the organization from the County of Bruce, where she currently holds the role of Director of Planning and Development. Van Myall holds a Master’s Certificate in Public Management from York University’s Schulich School of Business and a Certificate in Managing and Leading in a Municipal Environment from Loyalist College. She is also an Associate Member of the Ontario Municipal Administrators Association.

Van Myall is an experienced leader who has a passion for changing the future of rural Ontario communities through municipal leadership.

"Ms. Van Myall is an innovative and experienced leader in local land use planning and community development. Kara’s expertise will help us to ensure that Saugeen Shores continues to grow in a way that benefits everyone. I'm pleased she has joined our team as CAO and I look forward to our shared success," said Mayor Luke Charbonneau.

Van Myall is a Registered Landscape Architect and a Professional Planner with over 20 years of public sector experience. She grew up in Saugeen Shores and after several years returned to the area to raise her family. During this time she developed a strong passion to see Saugeen Shores prosper.

Van Myall’s professional background has garnered practical experience ranging from strategic planning and transformation to the implementation of numerous initiatives recognized both provincially and at the national level. She is known for her success at developing teams and creating an environment of high performance and engagement leading to creativity and innovation.

"I'm looking forward to working with staff, elected officials, and residents of the Town of Saugeen Shores. The unique communities within Saugeen Shores offer fascinating opportunities that I am excited to support. The Town of Saugeen Shores is a community that I am very familiar with, not only am I a resident of the community but I have worked closely with the Town over the last 15 years. I'm looking forward to moving into my new role, and to lead the organization during this significant growth period," said Van Myall in the release.

Van Myall will start her new role on December 7, 2020.
