A multi-unit fire Sunday evening on Ivings Drive in Port Elgin has resulted in severe injuries for one Port Elgin man.

In a September 21 media release from Saugeen Shores Police, on September 20, 2020 at 6:54pm, police, fire and ambulance responded to 560 Ivings Drive and discovered one unit of a multi-unit residential complex fully engulfed in smoke and flames. A male occupant, who had exited the unit on his own power, had sustained severe injuries and was transported to Saugeen Memorial Hospital and later airlifted by ORNGE to the London Health Sciences Burn Unit.

Approximately 40 firefighters from both Saugeen Shores fire stations fought the blaze. Several units sustained damage.

Victim Services Bruce Grey Perth and Red Cross attended the scene to assist residents displaced by the fire. The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office, assisted by the Saugeen Shores Police and Saugeen Shores Fire, will investigate.
