Social Athletics of Saugeen Shores (SASS) teams and executive have worked together to donate $5,000 to the Salvation Army Food Bank.

"[SASS] has always strived to be a positive, contributing member of the Saugeen Shores community. Our community members have always helped support us, so we are doing what we can for our community members in need," read a May 14 media release.

Just like many sports organizations, the SASS Dodgeball and Ladies Indoor Volleyball leagues have both had their seasons cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During a recent executive meeting the discussion turned to refunds for their teams. One executive member proposed making a donation on behalf of SASS to a local food bank and asking if their teams would like their refunds to be included.

"Thankfully, 33 of our 38 teams decided to donate their refunds. What a great gesture from our teams," read the release, adding that team donations totalled $3,300 with SASS executives adding $1,700 from league funds, bringing the total donation to $5,000.

"Thanks again to our team captains for helping us with this donation. Hopefully this can help many local families get through this difficult time," concluded the release.
