The Marine Heritage Society Board of Directors has made the decision to suspend tours to Chantry Island until further notice. "We need to stay in step with the federal, provincial and municipal restrictions to protect the health of all volunteers, passengers and the whole community," read an April 16 media release, adding that the tours are not an essential service and are not possible due to current gathering restrictions and physical distancing recommendations.
"Our group will be keeping a close watch and once these restrictions are lifted we will re-assess our ability to conduct a meaningful," read the release.
The Board used the opportunity to recognize and thank all of their "wonderful volunteers who work tirelessly" to make these tours happen each year.
"Stay safe and stay home," concluded the release.
