The Town of Saugeen Shores is notifying the public that the Government of Ontario extended its emergency measures to close all outdoor recreational amenities beginning on Monday, March 30.
In a Town of Saugeen Shores media release, green spaces in parks and trails will remain open for walkthrough access but individuals must maintain a safe physical distance of at least two metres from others.
In addition to the existing closures, under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act this new order will include beaches, sports fields, basketball courts and pavilions. Signage will be posted at most recreational facilities and major beach access points; however, the public is reminded that while not every location can be signed the same closures are in effect.
“We are committed to keeping residents safe and these new closures will help prevent the spread of COVID-19,” said Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau.
As stated in a March 29 media release, the Saugeen Shores Police Service are enforcing the emergency measures in the community. If people are shopping when they need to be self-isolating, business owners can call the police for enforcement.
“Everyone in our community needs to take these measures seriously,” added Charbonneau. “Stay home if you’re feeling sick and self-isolate for 14 days if you’re back from travelling. Do not stop for groceries as you head back into town, ask family or a neighbour to pick you up the essentials and go straight home.”
