Some families in Saugeen Shores need support during the holiday season and the Saugeen Shores Police Auxiliary's Salvation Army Toy Drive aimed to offer that support. This year Auxiliary members were stationed outside Walmart and Canadian Tire in Port Elgin December 7 accepting donations from members of the community.

Special Constable and Port Elgin Canadian Tire Store Manager Zach Mowbray was stationed outside his store. “This is the third truck load we’ve unloaded already,” said Mowbray, very pleased with the outpouring of support for the Toy Drive.

“Definitely more than last year,” reported Mowbray. "People have been very generous."

Once the toys are collected they are sorted into age appropriate groups and then distributed through the Salvation Army food boxes that go to families in need in Saugeen Shores.

Food donations and personal hygiene items were also being donated by Saturday shoppers.

A volunteer driver was ready to transport the collected toys from the Shores Police Service Auxiliary's Salvation Army Toy Drive to the warehouse.
