The Remembrance Day parade made its way to the Cenotaph in Southampton November 11 in honour of those who have served.

The Southampton Royal Canadian Legion conducted the 2019 Remembrance Day Ceremonies while snowflakes descended on the gathered crowd. Young and old stood along High Street to pay their respects to the fallen soldiers of Southampton and Saugeen First Nation. The Remembrance Day Parade marched toward to the Cenotaph and joined the spectators in the singing of O Canada. Reverend Ann Veyvara-Divinski led a group prayer followed by a hymn.

President of Southampton Legion Branch No. 155, Mike Jukes, announced the laying of the wreaths as members of the community approached the foot of the Cenotaph. As the bystanders shivered from the cold wind and snow, Jukes reminded everyone, “We’ve been standing here for half an hour, our soldiers were out in the trenches for weeks."

A chorus of God Save the Queen preceded the Colour Guard’s march down to Dominion Lookout and back.

Saugeen Shores Vice Deputy Mayor Mike Myatt laid a wreath at the foot of the Southampton Cenotaph for the County of Bruce at the Remembrance Day ceremonies November 11.

A sampling of the Southampton Concert Band, led by John Wills, accompanied the soldiers as they marched down High Stree in Southampton November 11.

Students and teachers from GC Huston Public School stood at attention for the 2019 Remembrance Day Service in Southampton November 11.
