Saugeen District Senior School (SDSS) celebrated its 130th annual Commencement October 11 with a ceremony that recognized the 140 graduating students of 2019.
Prior to the ceremony, which saw musical accompaniment by the SDSS Senior Band, graduates greeted each other in the gymnasium and took part in the ceremonial cap toss before making their way to the school cafetorium where they were presented with awards, scholarships, bursaries and diplomas.
"It seems like yesterday that you started at SDSS in Grade 9,” said Principal Melissa McEwan, acknowledging the students. “It's difficult to believe that time has passed so quickly and that you are now graduates.”
McEwan let each graduate know that they should be very proud of what they had accomplished. “So many of you have been inspirational at your time here at SDSS,” said McEwan. “Acts of kindness, stories of strength and conviction, perseverance, wisdom and intuition. Your curiosity, wonder and innovation are unstoppable and I can't wait to see what you do.”
