Saugeen Shores Police were involved in two separate drug related investigations in February, 2019. In both cases, drugs were seized, and numerous charges were initiated against a 35 year old woman and 58 year old man.
In a Saugeen Shores Police Service (SSPS) media release, as part of the continuing investigation, the seized drugs were sent to Health Canada for analysis. Reports were returned to SSPS this week confirming that the
Purple Fentanyl seized by police tested positive for: Heroin, Fentanyl, Carfentanil, and Methamphetamine.
Carfentanil is a synthetic opioid analgesic fentanyl and is one of the most potent opioids known. It is said to be 10,000 times more toxic than morphine, and 100 times more toxic than fentanyl.
If you or someone you know is using opioids, make sure to carry naloxone with you. Naloxone is used to temporarily reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, is available without prescription, and can be picked up at most pharmacies or at the Grey Bruce Health Unit, 101 17th Street East in Owen Sound.
