Inductees 2019

Each year the Saugeen Shores Hall of Fame selection committee has the difficult task of selecting inductees into the Hall of Fame and this year was no exception.

Putting the call out to the community in January, nominations are open to individuals or organizations in any field that have contributed to the community in an outstanding way or an individual or organization that has achieved outstanding accomplishments.

A joint effort by the Rotary Clubs of Southampton and Port Elgin, this year's Hall of Fame inductees will be celebrated May 9 at 7 p.m. at the Plex's Rotary Hall, 600 Tomlinson Drive in Port Elgin. Tickets are $20 and are available at Ralph's Hi-Way Shopette, Gord's Imprints & Design and Lakeshore Recreation.

Shelly Bellamy, Builder

Congratulations to Shelly Bellamy on being inducted into the 2019 Saugeen Shores Hall of Fame. Shelly's stellar career in coaching Special Olympics is what has earned her a spot.

Her role with the Special Olympics has spanned 30 years and includes coach, community co-ordinator and fundraiser.

She has coached at the provincial, national and international levels.

Shelly was recognized by the Ontario and Canadian Special Olympic Committees as Coach of the Year in 1998, Special Olympics Educator of the Year in 2003 and three of her athletes are members of the Saugeen Shores Hall of Fame.

Kelly Gribbons, Athlete

Congratulations to Kelly Gribbons on being inducted into the 2019 Saugeen Shores Hall of Fame. Kelly's outstanding career in women's hockey is what has earned her spot.

Kelly is a silver medallist in FISU World University Games, a two time winner OUA Championships and has competed at the national level.

Kelly is a recipient of the Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation Information and Community Technology Award and is a Canadian National Silver medallist in discus.

She has received multiple high school awards including Athlete of the Year.

Randy Millar, Builder

Congratulations to Randy Millar on being inducted into the 2019 Saugeen Shores Hall of Fame. Randy's outstanding career coaching track and field is what has earned him his spot.

Randy has been a member of the Saugeen Shores Track and Field Club for over 30 years as throwing coach discus, hammer, javelin and shot put.

He has achieved numerous national and provincial awards and was selected as Throws Coach for the Canada Summer Games in 2013 and 2017.

He has also held multiple head coach positions and in 2018 he was nominated as Athletics Canada Developmental Coach of the Year.

Becky Smith-Hull, Athlete

Congratulations to Becky Smith-Hull on being inducted into the 2019 Saugeen Shores Hall of Fame It is her outstanding career in track and field that has earned her a spot.

Becky was a member of the Saugeen Shores Track and Field Club from 1988-1996 and is a three time national champion for 400m hurdles, medlay relay and 4x100 medley relay.

She is a nine time Ontario champion in hurdles and has been the recipient of 11 Saugeen Track Club awards.

Becky received a full track scholarship to Oklahoma State University and was the All American Team Captain Varsity Track and Field Team.
