SS Police 4 560

In the early morning hours of Sunday, December 30 officers on general patrol observed a fight in front of a licensed Port Elgin establishment. In a Saugeen Shores Police media release, officers intervened and restrained one of the male combatants on the ground. While taking this person into custody, another male grabbed the arresting officer and struck him before fleeing on foot.

The male was located running from the scene a few block away by another officer and refused commands to stop. The officer exited their car and attempted to place the fleeing male under arrest. The male resisted the officer’s efforts but was eventually taken into custody with the assistance of another police service member.

A 22 year old Port Elgin man has been charged with causing a disturbance while fighting, assaulting an officer, and resisting arrest. He was released with a court date.
