There was plenty of police activity at Mowbray's Canadian Tire in Port Elgin December 15 and all for a good cause as Saugeen Shores Police Service (SSPS) held their first 'Stuff the Cruiser' Christmas Toy Drive outside the store.

Saugeen Shores Police Chief Mike Bellai said that although they have collected toys at the station in previous years this was the first year for taking the Toy Drive on the road. "We thought this year we'd do a toy drive," said Bellai. "Help people out this time of year."

Chief Bellai said the toys will be delivered to the Salvation Army and they will in turn distribute them to the community. “It works out really well,” he said.

To kick off the Toy Drive the Mowbray family wheeled out three shopping carts full of toys and games that they had donated so officers could start 'stuffing the cruiser.'

Once again Santa Claus made an appearance in Saugeen Shores as the man in red flew in to help collect toys and talk to children as they entered and left the Port Elgin store.

Last week, December 8, shoppers found SSPS at Rowland's Independent for a Food Drive. "We got a lot of food, a lot of cash and gift certificates," said Bellai. "It was really good," he added.
