SS Police 5 560

Saugeen Shores Police Service will soon be equipped with a new unmarked vehicle, thanks to the Province of Ontario's Civil Remedies Grant program.

The SSPS was successful with a grant application to provide the fully equipped front line vehicle that will be outfitted with an Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system. In a November 30 SSPS media release, the system can read multiple licence plates at a time, without the operator having to input information.

The ALPR will alert the operator to any unlawful activity associated to the vehicle or registered owner and will prove important in assisting officers to gather intelligence about vehicles and owners involved in Human Trafficking as well as other investigations.

The grant program is a Province of Ontario initiative to help prevent unlawful activity and support victims across the province, according to a release posted to news.ontario.ca. The grant specific to SSPS for the vehicle and ALPR is $74,850.
