The Saugeen Shores Police Service will be paying special attention to motorists and vehicle passengers that neglect to wear seat belts from now until October 12.

In a September 27 media release, so far this year 34 motorists who had failed to properly wear seat belt restraints have been killed province wide. Most motorists buckle up, however the ones who choose not to account for almost half of the fatalities on Ontario roads.

Buckling up should be every motorist's first order of business when getting into their vehicle.

As a vehicle operator it is your responsibility to ensure that all passengers under the age of 16 are properly buckled up.

Violators could face up to a $240 fine and two demerit points.

The campaign will last until October 12, however road safety is a priority for the Saugeen Shores Police Service throughout the year.
