A ceremonial sod turning took place in front of the new Saugeen Shores Police Service headquarters September 13 where builders, the Police Service Board (PSB) and the Mayor of Saugeen Shores echoed that so far the project is on time and on budget.

Standing in front of the build Mayor Mike Smith said that Saugeen Shores is the fastest growing municipality in Bruce County and the new headquarters, which are expected to be completed by the Fall of 2019, will be able to fit the growing community. "We’re looking forward to next Fall when all of our Police Services moves in," he said.

Chair of the Police Service Board, Saugeen Shores Deputy Mayor Luke Charbonneau said that it is an exciting day for the Board as it is their responsibility to make sure that the community has adequate and effective policing. “Constructing this building is a major part of our achieving that goal," said Charbonneau. "A Police Service that obviously needs a new facility to operate out of in order to be able to be effective and to work well for the community,” he said.

Charbonneau added that the Board was excited that the project was well underway.

Saugeen Shores Police Chief Mike Bellai said it's the personel's jobs to adapt to situations and the force has been doing a good job with their limited space but added he is pleased that the Police Service will be able to grow inside the facility that is designed to grow with the growing population. “They're very excited about the new facility and the extra space," he said. "It will be a welcome change."
