Stolen vehicle and domestic incident result in charges:

On September 12, members of the Saugeen Shores Police investigated domestic incident at a local hotel. A female reported to police that her estranged husband had stolen her vehicle from the parking lot. When he attempted to leave the lot, it is alleged that the male reversed into the female, but caused no injuries. The male then fled the area at a high rate of speed and eventually lost control of the vehicle and ran off the roadway causing damage to the lawn of a local business. The male then fled the area in the vehicle, which was later located nearby with punctured tires.

Later in the day police received another call to attend the hotel as the male had returned. To evade police the male stole another vehicle and left the area. Officers located the second stolen vehicle at an address in Arran-Elderslie. The suspect was located nearby and arrested.

A 46 year old male of no fixed address is charged with:

• Theft under $5000
• Theft over $5000
• Assault with a weapon
• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
• Mischief causing damage to property x 2
• Breach of Probation x 2

The male has been held for a bail hearing on September 13.

Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle:

On September 11 at approximately 10:45 p.m. an officer on general patrol conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a minor traffic violation in the area of Ivings Drive and Goderich Street. During this stop the officer observed what was believed to be a controlled substance located inside the vehicle. As the officer was removing the driver from the vehicle to affect an arrest, the driver accelerated quickly and fled the area at a high rate of speed. The fleeing vehicle sped south along Goderich Street and was seen east bound on Concession 6. The vehicle was being driven in such a manner that it put other motorists and pedestrians at risk.

The vehicle was located several hours later with extensive damage near the intersection of 18/19 Sideroad and Concession 2 upside down in shallow creek. The driver had fled the area on foot.

An arrest warrant is being sought for a 31 year old Hanover man for dangerous driving.
