The Town of Saugeen Shores, along with consultants from Paradigm Transportation Solutions Limited and GSP Group, has initiated the creation of a Transportation Master Plan for the municipality.

In a Town of Saugeen Shores media release, the project includes a study which will assess the existing transportation and road network to identify potential improvements to meet current and future needs. The final plan will provide a policy framework to support sustainable transportation practices and livable communities as Saugeen Shores grows over time.

“This plan will help Saugeen Shores meet the needs of all stakeholders including residents and visitors, drivers, cyclists and pedestrians,” said Mayor Mike Smith. “Public participation is an essential component of this project. It is a chance for us to identify concerns and opportunities as our community continues to thrive and grow,” he added.

A public engagement program has been designed as part of the project to encourage two-way communication with the public. The first opportunity for public input will be informal sessions this week taking place at Cruiser’s Night in Southampton on Thursday, August 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. and at Port Elgin Main Beach on Friday, August 31 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. These ‘pop-up’ conversations encourage the public to point out areas of concern and provide suggestions for the plan.

Future opportunities for public engagement will include meetings with stakeholder groups and online surveys. For more information on the Transportation Master Plan and opportunities to provide input, visit saugeenshores.ca/tmp.
