The Saugeen Shores Police Service is warning the public about a very potent, potentially deadly drug seized within the jurisdiction of Saugeen Shores.
In an August 27 media release, Saugeen Shores Police Service has confirmed through Health Canada that a substance seized in relation to an overdose has tested positive for Carfentanil.
Carfentanil is approximately 100 times more toxic than fentanyl and 10,000 times more toxic than morphine. This means Carfentanil can be deadly in extremely small quantities. Carfentanil is being cut in with other illicit drugs like heroin and fentanyl making the use of this drug extremely toxic, even a small amount could cause an overdose or even death.
The Saugeen Shores Police Service has administered Naloxone three times since February 2018 saving the lives of three people who suffered an overdose due to ingesting opioids.
If you suspect someone is suffering from an opioid overdose, please call emergency services immediately. If you have information relating to the trafficking of opioids or any other illicit controlled substance, please notify the Saugeen Shores Police Service at 519-832-9200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
