Organizers of the 30th annual Rotary Huron Shore Run (RHSR), held this past June, doled out funds raised from the annual event that gets people walking, running and rolling their way along the Lake Huron shoreline.

With over 800 participants and $78,000 raised, after expenses $38,000 was donated to the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF) and $5,500 each went to the Rotary Clubs of Port Elgin and Southampton and the Saugeen Track and Field Club.

During the cheque presentations held at event sponsor the Walker House August 26, RHSR co-organizer June Van Bastelaar noted a record number of teams stepping up their fundraising efforts for the 2018 event with the 2019 event set to take place June 1.

Top teams included the Walker House who raised $10,000 and the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) who raised almost $2,000.

Van Bastelaar also praised Marlene McFarlane who was not in attendance but raised $5,000 as well as Robert Ho, Mary Putnam and Sarah Putnam who also raised large sums for the annual event.

Mary Putnam, owner of the Walker House, said that she was deeply grateful for the ongoing community support shown by patrons of the Walker House. Rick Carr of the Saugeen Track and Field Club thanked the RHSR for their contribution and said it would cover the operating budget for the club.
