Chantry Island is now an official “Friend” to the Butterfly Gardens of Saugeen Shores (BGOSS).
In a BGOSS media release, visitors to Chantry Island can view Pod S-10 and the numerous gardens tended by Ali Kelly and her team of volunteers.
Melitta Smole, BGOSS Executive, said she is thrilled to have Chantry Island as a “Friend” of the Butterfly Gardens. “Having Chantry Island as an official BGOSS pod enhances tourism in our community. Visitors to the island can also be on the lookout for Monarch butterflies as there have been numerous sightings of eggs on common milkweed,” she said.
Chantry Island features an historical lighthouse and keeper's cottage, restored to its original 1800s condition and decorated with period furnishings. Visitors can take a walk through the protected bird sanctuary and surrounding gardens.
Chantry Island Tours are brought to you by the Southampton Marine Heritage Society, a group of dedicated volunteers. Tours run until Labour Day. For tour and booking information visit www.chantryisland.com or call 519-797-5862.
