On April 18 in the House, Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson tabled legislation to proclaim June 7 of each year as Great Lakes Day in Ontario.
From a Lisa Thompson media release, “Regardless of political stripe, we all share responsibility for the protection of our Great Lakes,” said Thompson, adding that a Great Lakes Day would be an opportunity to promote best practices and continue to work for the preservation of the natural resource.
The Great Lakes provide drinking water for 8.5 million Canadians and are a hub of economic and recreational activity in Ontario.
“The riding of Huron-Bruce has a significant section of coastline and the future of the Great Lakes is a priority for me, my constituents, and for all Ontarians,” Thompson added.
