The students of St Joseph’s School in Port Elgin collected over 200 non-perishable food items for the Saint Vincent De Paul Society with Grade 7 and 8 students helping to deliver their donation to St Joseph’s Church where the food items are stored.

Throughout the year the students help fill the shelves with food by participating in dress-down Fridays and collecting food throughout the year, said St Vincent De Paul Society President Mairead Keely. Keely said that the Society provides food donations for 30 to 40 homes a month, and that anyone wanting to donate gift cards or non-perishable food items can bring their donations to the church.

Pastas, canned vegetables and canned meats, and instant mashed potatoes are always needed, with Keely noting that the Society makes sure to provide healthy breakfast options in every food drop-off.
