Evidence from Port Elgin Pumpkinfest would suggest that politicians are especially good at expectorating. The event was the Celebrity Seed Spitting Competition at this year’s 31st annual event in Saugeen Shores.
Deputy Mayor of Brockton Dan Gieruszak showed his prowess over the other 11 competitors.
Gieruszak may have a little more launching air available since he has competed in five Iron Man competitions. He spit his seed to the 29-ft 5-in mark.
Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy was spitting right at the winner’s heels with a 28-ft effort. Remarkably 11 participants spit over 20 feet, except for Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith who drew gasps and laughter from the crowd when he dribbled his seed some 10-ft 2-in.
Two-time winner MPP for Bruce Grey Owen Sound Bill Walker, who spit two inches over 29 feet in 2015 and a foot further in 2016 did not attend this year’s event.
As for Gieruszak the Brockton politician said that competition was excellent. “I didn't prepare this year. That’s my secret. I had prepared in the past and it didn't seem to help so I was more relaxed,” said the winner.
The event was sponsored by 7Acres.
