Three pipe bands and hundreds of union members along with their families walked in the annual Labour Day Parade, organized by Unifor retirees and the Grey Bruce Labour Council on Monday, September 4.
The route took participating unions from the Port Elgin Home Hardware location south down Goderich Street through downtown Port Elgin.
Led by the McLaren Pipe and Drum Band from Wiarton, the Teeswater Highlanders and the Loch Lomond Pipe and Drum Band, union workers from many unions were represented including the Power Workers Union, OOSTF/FEESO, Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario, CUPE, SEIU Healthcare and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America; all walking for fairness and equality.
Spectators lined the streets from one end of the parade to the other while candy, pencils and bubbles were handed out along the parade route. The parade was followed by a barbecue at the Unifor Family Education Centre.
