SSP 560See: Update on August 16 dog bite incident

The Saugeen Shores Police Service is currently investigating a dog bite incident that occurred on August 16 at 4 pm and is looking for assistance from the public.

The complainant reported that he was walking his 12 week old Husky Malamute cross on a leash along the shoreline near Blanchfield and Eckford Drive public access. 

A group of three unaccompanied dogs were running northbound and attacked his dog as he picked it up to try and protect it. The puppy received serious injuries to its hind leg.

The complainant was bitten and received injuries to his hand and left forearm. The larger dog was described as a Rottweiler cross, brown and tan in colour with a collar.  The smaller dogs were described as golden in colour and brown in colour.

Two other people intervened and chased the dogs away. The puppy was taken to the Southampton Animal Hospital where it is being cared for. 

The complainant was treated at the Grey Bruce Regional Health Services - Southampton for his injuries.

The owners of the dogs are unknown and if they cannot be identified the victim will have to undergo the rabies vaccine regiment.
