Marie-France Lalonde, Ontario’s Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services and Brian Cumming, Bruce Power’s Department Manager, EPS Operations, Programs & Support, in Bruce Power’s fire training facility, which simulates real-life situations for our on-site firefighters.

Bruce Power was joined today by the Hon. Marie-France Lalonde, Ontario’s Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services, to launch a $100,000 fund that will invest in community safety initiatives between 2018 and 2020.

“We are excited to launch this new Community Safety Fund, which will be available to local organizations in Bruce, Grey and Huron counties, as well as the local Indigenous communities, as we work together to support and promote all facets of safety,” said Mike Rencheck, Bruce Power’s President and CEO. “I appreciate the Minister of Community Safety also joining us today to launch this fund and also visiting our site to see first-hand our commitment to Safety First – our Number 1 value.”

During her visit, Minister Lalonde also visited the new 23,000 square-foot fire training facility, which includes a mock-up of real plant conditions allowing firefighters to practice in realistic situations. The facility is an important training tool for Bruce Power’s on-site firefighters and also provides opportunities for firefighters in local communities, who regularly train at the facility.

The Minister was also provided with updates on key safety measures the company has in place including MOUs with municipal government and local hospitals, cyber security, communications with local residents, emergency preparedness and a range of activities throughout the organization.

“During my visit to the Bruce Power site today, it was clear to me that they put a great deal of focus and effort into safe operations, worker safety, and active engagement within the local communities,” said Minister Lalonde. “The Community Safety Fund that was launched today is a welcome investment, and will bring an important safety message to Bruce, Huron, and Grey counties. I commend the dedication and professionalism of Bruce Power’s people and their commitment to community safety.”

Funding applications for the Community Safety Fund will be accepted between August 1 and December 21, 2017, through our Community Investment and Sponsorship page.
