An isolated bedroom fire at 392 Waterloo Street could cost an estimated $50,000 to $60,000 said Saugeen Shores Fire Chief Phil Eagleson, July 23. A passerby called 911 during the late morning on July 23, which brought firefighters from both Port Elgin and Southampton stations to the scene.
“No one was home at the time of the fire,” said Eagleson, who noted that the fire is currently under investigation. “The fire was kept to a bedroom area and no spread to the rest of the structure. The structure has basic water and smoke damage to one bedroom in the upper floor and the rest of the structure has light smoke damage because of the fire,” he said.
“The cause is still under determination, not suspicious at this time,” he added.
The property had a second dwelling with two people who cooperated with fire crews. The property was home to two cats who were not affected by the fire, however Eagleson said that a guinea pig had not been accounted for as the time of publishing.
