Rotary Southampton President John Conlin welcomed members and guests to the Rotary Showcase at the Bruce County Museum May 31.

The Rotary Club of Southampton invited over 80 friends and potential new members to an informal interest meeting at the Bruce County Museum May 31. Mounting a series of displays of their activities ranging from the new accessible splash pad, literacy programs and scholarship awards to youth exchange programs and clean water projects in the Cameroons, the Rotary Club aimed to highlight their work in the community and around the world.
Details of the club’s various fund raising activities were also on display including Rotary Winterama, Rotary Huron Shore Run, the club’s charity golf tournament, road rally and dinner auction.
Mary Ellen from Red and White provided a selection of hors d’oeuvres from around the world to compliment the areas of worldwide focus of Rotary International.
John Conlin, Club President welcomed guests and introduced the public premiere of a video produced by a group of students at G.C. Huston Public School illustrating the work of the Rotary Club.
“The video produced by the students at GC Huston, provided a superb learning opportunity for the children and the club benefited by being the recipient of a short promotional video about the great work our club does in the community,” said Conlin.
He then went onto announce a major accessible splash pad donation of $30,000 from the Federal Government Enabling Accessibility Fund.
Splash Pad Committee Chair Ed Braun said he was “thrilled that the Federal Government had decided to make a significant contribution to the accessible splash pad project.”
A commissioned painting by renowned local artist Darlene Watson was raffled in celebration of Rotary Foundation’s Centennial and feature the Foundation’s End Polio Now campaign, raising $1,000.
