The Town of Saugeen Shores is repurposing the former Port Elgin Water Pollution Control Plant and using it as a live fire training facility for the month of March, 2017.
In a February 28 news release, the building is located on Lehnen Street, near the Dog Park, on the east end of Port Elgin and is slated for demolition in April.
“The Fire Department is thankful for the opportunity presented by Public Works staff. Their collaborative approach brings an excellent training opportunity to further enhance firefighter capabilities,” said Phil Eagleson, Saugeen Shores Fire Chief.
A public notice from Town staff identifying training dates is expected.
The building is approximately 25’ by 25’, has served as a surplus storage building for a number of years and is now in extreme disrepair. In addition, the building’s location is in direct conflict with a proposed access road and chain link gate set to be constructed in the summer of 2017 as part of the Port Elgin Water Pollution Control Plan Effluent Outfall Replacement Project.
