The S.S. Trolley has been named as a finalist for an Economic Development Council of Ontario (EDCO) Awards of Excellence, in the category of Building/Infrastructure. The winners of the awards will be announced at the EDCO Awards of Excellence Banquet on February 9 in Toronto.
“We’ve made dining and shopping between communities more accessible than ever. For only a dollar, riders enjoyed the S.S. Trolley experience and are able to explore our great Town,” said Joanne Robbins, General Manager of the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce.
“Business owners noticed an influx of visitors to their establishments while the Trolley gained popularity across the nation,” said Robbins in a news release.
When it was launched, the story of the S.S. Trolley spread across the country. The concept of a “people mover” has proven to connect economic success between Port Elgin and Southampton.
“We’re proud to be a finalist for an EDCO Award and are looking forward to offering the Trolley service throughout Saugeen Shores again in the summer of 2017,” said Robbins.
In 2015 the Chamber of Commerce began collaborative discussions. In 2016 the Chamber of Commerce purchased the vehicle and began design of signage, Trolley stops, route design and more. The project begin in support of the Chamber of Commerce, the Town of Saugeen Shores, Regional Tourism Organization 7 (RTO7 Partnership Funding) and Bruce County (Spruce the Bruce funding).
