It was an unexpected Sunday morning at Port Elgin United Church when smoke filled the sanctuary and the Fire Department was called to attend.

In a November 13 message to The Hub, it was reported that shortly after 9 a.m., following a thorough check of the premises, access to the Activity Centre at the other end of the building was permitted.

Thanks to a small army of volunteers who got to work setting up chairs and equipment, the service was able to get underway right on time at 10 a.m., followed by the regular coffeetime.

Kudos to the responders, Reverend Bonnie and everyone who pitched in.
