A lucky bunch of eager skaters got to mix and mingle with NHL alumni at the Skate with the Greats fundraising event hosted by Bruce Power. The event was held at the Plex in Port Elgin on October 28 with former NHLers such as Rick Vaive, Dennis Maruk, Tom Fergus, Kraig Nienhuis, Al Iafrate, Ric Nattress, Mark Laforest and Mike Krushelnski skating and signing autographs for many fans on and off the ice.
The stars were in town to participate in the Huron Bruce Celebrity Hockey Tournament, which took place October 29. Organizer, Development Manager for Easter Seals, Charlene Myke said there were approximately 30 to 40 fundraisers that took to the ice.
Every skater was required to raise a minimum of $25, which goes directly towards Easter Seals. Easter Seals Ontario provides programs and services to children and youth with physical disabilities, including a 10-day accessible summer camp experience at Easter Seals’ Woodeden Camp.
Twelve-year-old Riley McMillan of Saugeen Shores was ecstatic to be around former Toronto Maple Leaf Tom Fergus and the rest of the NHL alumni at the Skate with the Greats fundraising event at the Plex October 29.
Five-year-old Richard Buckland surrounded himself with some new friends at the Skate with the Greats event October 29. From left former NHLers Ric Nattress, Rick Waive and Mark Laforest.
