Grade 2 students Kara (left), Kenzie and Chloe donned stickers that indicated for whom they were running in their school's Terry Fox Run, September 29. Many listed grandparents, friends and family members who have been inflicted with cancer, while others simply wrote that they were running for “Terry”. Megan Dunn photo

“I want to set an example that will never be forgotten.” - Terry Fox
The Wildcats of École Port Elgin Saugeen Central School held their Terry Fox Run, September 29. Each student brought in a “Toonie for Terry” to go towards the foundation that keeps Canadian hero, Terry Fox’s message alive, 35 years after he passed.
With students involved in the ME to WE program leading the charge, the school followed respectfully as they walked the perimeter of the schoolyard, before setting out on their own run in memory of Terry.
In a recent assembly, music teacher Matthew Patterson, Vice-Principal Kevin Wilson and Principal Kara Bowles informed students that if they raised enough funds from the run to surpass certain goals, that winning students chosen from a raffle would have an opportunity to throw a pie in the faces of the teachers the following Friday.
If the students raised over $1,400 then Matthew Patterson would be the one to receive a pie to the face. If they raised over $1,700 then Vice-Principal Wilson will get pied. If the students raised over $2,000 then Principal Bowles will also get “creamed”.
At the time of publishing, funds were still being calculated.
