Breakfast on the Beach will have an extra scoop - and a local one at that - as morning show host Brian Longmire will soon be joined by new co-host Liny Lamberink. Lamberink is currently a reporter and newscaster with Bayshore Broadcasting in Owen Sound, and beginning September 26, will be joining Longmire in the Port Elgin studio, to co-host and help deliver local news.
Longmire is not only excited about news with a local perspective, as Lamberink will be covering Sauble Beach, Kincardine, Paisley and Saugeen Shores, but he is also thrilled that there will be someone in the studio to laugh at his jokes.
“I won’t be so lonely in the morning,” added Longmire. “I’ll have someone to talk to which will be great, and play off of as well. It’s sometimes difficult to say things to the microphone and not know what the response is,” Longmire said, adding that laughing at your own jokes is never a good thing.
Lamberink is a recent graduate from a joint media program between Western University and Fanshawe College, and received her first job in journalism with Bayshore Broadcasting in the spring.
She hails from small town Ontario, growing up in Acton, and is an avid horseback rider. She has already found a place to live in Southampton and has been in touch with local barns so she can ride.
“I'm really starting to appreciate rural Ontario,” said Lamberink September 16, when she visited her new co-workers at 98 the Beach. She said she likes the small town character of Saugeen Shores and she really resonates with Saugeen Shores because of her roots.
Lamberink said she and Brian Longmire have been communicating a lot since she learned that she will be joining him on the morning show.
“We’ve been vibing pretty hard on Facebook chat and Burli (newsroom system) all the time,” said Lamberink.
“I called him up just before I took the job just to see if he was legit and he's pretty cool,”
Longmire added that she just wanted to make sure he wasn't “crazy”.
Lamberink quipped that she just needed to make sure he was the right kind of crazy, “so our weirdness is compatible”.
Lamberink will be out and about covering local events for 98 the Beach and will deliver news throughout the mornings and lunch time hours on the popular Saugeen Shores radio station.
