The Southampton Rotary Club’s 24th annual Charity Golf Tournament at Chippewa Golf Club proved to be a great day on the greens and a successful fundraising event for Rotary programs as approximately $13,000 was raised by participants and through a raffle and silent auction, July 4.

Thirteen teams enjoyed a day out in the sun with three teams taking the top spots.

Men’s honours went to Geza Kocsis, Brian MacLean, Lynn MacLean and Sam Ryder while the Ladies title went to Gloria Currie, Shauna Roesgan, Judy Trotman and Mary Ann Weickert. Winners in the mixed category Brian Shular, Sue Shular, Doug Freiburger and Judy Freiburger.

Following the day of golf, Bob Waram, a Rotarian from Walkerton, beat out 120 other golfers to claim the $220 ball toss prize after his ball was the only one to land in the hole on the putting green.

Newly appointed Southampton Rotary President John Conlin said it was a beautiful day for a golf tournament and that money raised from the event will go towards the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation and any community.

Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith admitted that the tournament was his first chance to get out golfing this summer.

“This is a great tournament every year, we really enjoy coming out. They (Rotary) support so many things in the community, the work these guys do, a bunch of volunteers, it’s fabulous, so it’s great to come out and support them,” said Smith before the tournament.

The Charity Golf Tournament is the Southampton Rotary Club’s second major fundraising event, second only to the Rotary Fall Gala in October.

Ladies 560Three vibrant ladies teams played in the Rotary Golf Tournament that saw Gloria Currie, Shauna Roesgan, Judy Trotman and Mary Ann Weickert come out with the lowest score.
