Bruce Power has provided $30,000 to the Canadian Cancer Society for area Youth Relay for Life events, including the one held at Saugeen District Secondary School June 2.
Secondary school events held in Saugeen Shores, Kincardine, Goderich and Meaford each received $7,500.
“Almost everybody has been touched by cancer, whether through personal experience or supporting a friend or family member in their battle,” said Kevin Kelly, Acting President and Chief Financial Officer. “It is important we support our local youth, many of whom have lost parents, grandparents and other loved ones. To see students raising funds and awareness through these Youth Relay for Life events is very uplifting, and we’re proud to support these important initiatives.”
Geoff Van Geem, Manager of the Bluewater Office of the Canadian Cancer Society, said the organization is grateful for Bruce Power’s support over the past 12 years. “With sponsors like Bruce Power, Relay for Life is helping us make a difference in the fight against cancer by funding Canada’s most promising cancer research and easing the burden families face in their fight against cancer through local services such our Wheels of Hope transportation service,” Van Geem said.
Bruce Power will make an additional $5,000 donation to the local Cancer Society to honour the memory of others who have lost their life to cancer.
