Early risers had their pick on Saturday, May 21 as bargains and lost treasures were put on display for the annual yard sale day throughout Saugeen Shores.

Nothing however, could compare to the Giant Garage Sale that took over the Southampton Curling Club, and with the help of the Chantry Island Cham-bettes Garage Sale taking place at the Boat House, with deals going by donation, people were flocking.

Cham-bettes’ President, Karen Schroeder said that people showed up earlier than expected to the Southampton Boat House, which had been filled with donated items. “It’s been crazy,” said Schroeder. “We had four people at 7:02, we don’t officially open until 7:30 but I think by 7:30 we had over 50 people. We ask people to pay by donation, we did price some bigger things that we didn't want to sell for five dollars, though.”

Schroeder went on to say that 100 percent of the money raised by the “Boat House Sale” gets donated back to the local community.

Right next door the Annual Giant Garage Sale was taking place in the Curling Club, presented by the South-Port Optimist Club and the Southampton Curling Club. Southampton Art Gallery’s 5th annual Artsy Treasures Sale, which features paintings, photographs, frames, and gently used art supplies was part of the Giant Sale.

Darlene McConnachie, Art School Director said midway through the morning that most of the art supplies had been sold and that she was now down to the “bare minimum”.

“It’s doing really well. I think with having the Cham-bettes next door and the South-Port Optimist Club here [Curling Club] this year, that we’ve had a lot more people, and a lot more stuff,” McConnachie said.
