A total of 113 incidents were reported to Saugeen Shores Police between April 25 and May 1.
On May 1 at 1:23 a.m., police observed a pick-up truck operating in Port Elgin that had been reported stolen from Walkerton the previous morning. The cruiser activated the emergency lights and the driver would not stop, headed north and entered the field north and west of Mary Street with the cruiser in pursuit. The cruiser struck a lane crossing the field causing the airbags to deploy and came to a rest. The cruiser was heavily damaged, both officers were checked out and one received minor injuries. The driver of the pick-up left the scene.
Following investigation on May 5, two young offenders were arrested and charged with:
Joint charges: Theft Under $5,000 from a Motor Vehicle x3; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000; Theft of Motor Vehicle x3; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000; and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000; Individual charges;
Individual charges: Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle; Flight while Pursued; Fail to Comply with OIC Undertaking; Possession of a Prohibited Weapon; Possession of a Schedule I Substance.
Saugeen Shores Police would like to remind citizens to take the time to lock your vehicles and remove your valuables. Do not leave your keys ionside. “Please help us help you. Lock it or lose it.”
Some time overnight on May 1, a vehicle tire had been slashed on a vehicle in Port Elgin.
At 7:21 a.m. on May 1, police were dispatched to an unwanted person at a store in Southampton. The intoxicated male was turned over to his mother.
At 5:28 p.m., on May 1, an unlocked bicycle was stolen from Port Elgin.
On April 30 at 7:43 a.m., police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in Port Elgin. A Ford F150 was stolen from the laneway; it was unlocked with the keys inside.
At 9 a.m. on April 30, a second vehicle was reported stolen from the same general area in Port Elgin. A 2012 Chevrolet Silverado was stolen from a laneway, the keys were in the unlocked vehicle.
On April 30 at 11:00 a.m., police received a GPS location of the second vehicle in Brockton. Police attended and found both stolen vehicles in a wooded area stuck in the mud. Police are investigating.
At 8:48 p.m. on April 30, police were dispatched to a report of an intoxicated female in Southampton. Police located a 59 year old Saugeen Shores female in a highly intoxicated condition sitting in the ditch. She was arrested for public intoxication and lodged in the cells until sober.
On April 29 at 11:05 a.m., police received a report of a wallet being stolen from an unlocked vehicle in Port Elgin. The wallet contained credit, debit, SIN cards and driver’s licence.
At 12:27 p.m. on April 29, police responded to a report of a stolen van from a Port Elgin residence overnight. The vehicle was not locked and the keys were left inside. The vehicle was returned undamaged but with mud and grass in the wheel wells. Police are investigating.
On April 29 at 1:11 p.m., police received a report of the theft of credit cards and identification from a vehicle in Port Elgin.
At 3:43 p.m. on April 29, police received report of a break and enter at Maple Square Mall. Police arrested two young offenders for the offence.
At 5:18 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle collision at North Rankin and Turner Street in Southampton. A vehicle was west on Turner Street, stopped at the stop sign at North Rankin and proceeded. Another vehicle was south on North Rankin and was struck by the first vehicle. The driver of one of the vehicles was taken by ambulance to Southampton Hospital, treated and released. The driver of the offending vehicle was charged with Fail to Yield.
On April 28 at 6:11 a.m., police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in Port Elgin. A 2005 Pontiac had been stolen from the laneway, keys were inside the unlocked vehicle. Police located the stolen vehicle near Mackenzie and Wellington Street stuck in the mud and water.
On April 27 at 12:15 p.m., police responded to a mischief complaint along River Street. Someone had kicked in the door to the washroom on the Rail Trail near River Street. No suspects.
On April 26 at 5:55 p.m., a vehicle backed up and struck a parked vehicle near the Walker House in Southampton. The passenger in the parked vehicle had a description and licence plate of the offending vehicle. Police are investigating.
On April 25 Officers Ian Clark, Chantel Primeau and Ken Cook are teaching the D.A.R.E. program at G.C. Huston, Northport, St Joseph’s and Saugeen Central schools.
At 12:18 p.m. on April 25, a 21 year old Saugeen Shores male was arrested for breaching conditions of an earlier release.
1:43 pm police responded to a motor vehicle collision at Waterloo and Mill Street. A vehicle was south on Waterloo Street and was struck by a vehicle that was west on Mill Street and failed to yield to traffic. No injuries, the offending driver was charged.
