Saugeen Shores, as well as other local organizations, benefited from donations made to them at Lakeshore Recreation on Tuesday, April 5 from the Bruce County Conservationists (BCC).
The BCC, a registered public foundation of hunters, fishermen and outdoorsmen, held their annual banquet with silent and live auctions, raffles and door prizes to raise money for children, youth, seniors and community groups from Saugeen Shores, Paisley, Tara, Tiverton and Kincardine.
“This is a supper we do every year,” said BCC member Zach Kranenburg, adding that all funds are raised at the banquet, “through the dinner itself, through all the donations we get and we raffle off a bunch of prizes and sell raffle tickets.”
In Saugeen Shores, the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF) was presented with a cheque for $1,000. SMHF Chair, Jonna Ebel said the money will be going to the hospital's annual needs.
Another Saugeen Shores organization to benefit was PRANCE (Pegasus Riding Association Nurturing Challenged Equestrians), who received a cheque for $750. Located off Highway 21, just north of Port Elgin, PRANCE offers therapeutic equestrian programs designed to help people with intellectual, physical and emotional disabilities. Operations Manager and Volunteer Co-ordinator, Ann Veyvara-Divinski said the money will go to help their general programming.
Other cheques presented were $1,600 to the Bluewater District School Board for their Eat and Learn program, $1,000 to the Kincardine and Community Healthcare Foundation, $750 to the Tara and Area Food Bank and $750 to the Paisley and Community Food Bank
Over the past nine years, Bruce County Conservationists have donated over $95,000 to community organizations.
